What I hate the most about New Moon: Meyer romanticized suicide.

I understand that teenagers (and grown-ups, too) have volatile emotions. A broken heart really can seem like the end of the world. People get depressed and feel like they have nothing to live for. I know.

This is the reason why I follow your blog so religiously. The expert way you deconstruct Twilight’s internal logic and turn a spotlight on all the potentially dangerous messages within it entertains, informs, disgusts and delights me all at once (“disgusts” because it’s hard not to be disgusted at Mrs. Meyer’s shameless pandering to the dark side of teen wangst).

The romanticization of suicide is my biggest problem with New Moon, and it’s a problem that carries through to Breaking Dawn, because nobody learned a lesson from the entire Volterra incident. Suicide is still considered a viable option when Bella kicks it, because the message that suicide is wrong was never even suggested! I know you’re only on Eclipse, and that you haven’t gotten around to deconstructing Breaking Dawn’s lunacy, but I await that moment with baited breath.

It’s going to be magnificent.
